Navigating Job Loss in IT: Essential Tips for Staying Ahead

Recently, an ex-Sparxian messaged me to talk about his career, the stress of losing jobs in IT, and how to stay relevant.

Here’s what I shared with him:

1. Follow tech with a long shelf-life. Enterprise tech like Java, .NET, SAP, Salesforce, and ServiceNow will last longer in the market than JAMStack technologies like React or Angular.

2. Keep learning. Stay updated with the latest advancements and never stop improving your skills.

3. Sail the trend. Keep an eye on emerging trends and adapt accordingly.

4. Follow top developers on Medium. Learn from the best by reading their articles and insights.

5. Join subreddits. Engage with communities that share your interests and stay informed.

6. Consider service-based multinational companies. They often provide more stability compared to product-based companies.

——

Starting your own venture is another alternative, but do it only if:

1. You have excellent English speaking and communication skills.

2. You have at least one co-founder, with well-defined duties. One person should handle deliveries, operations, and hiring, while the other looks after sales, marketing, and account management.

——

Going solo is also an option.
Building your personal brand on YouTube or LinkedIn can help you build a network and audience, enabling you to monetize your experience. However, you must figure out a niche before you step in.

——

I hope this helps anyone facing similar challenges. We’re all in this together, and sharing knowledge is key to staying ahead.
